2017 World Sake Day Instore Tasting at Hedonism Wines

Do you know what day is the 1st of October?  It is World Sake Day to celebrate the beginning of an official new sake brewing season.  It is just like a new year’s day for sake industry.  
 
Since 2016, House of Sake has been a curator of World Sake Day Instore Tasting at Hedonism Wines, where House of Sake consult sake selection and events.  The tasting took place again this year from 1pm to 5pm.  
 
This year, it has been sold out again for 60 guests.  Ticket was £35 of which £10 was redeemable against any sake purchases on the day to give a little encouragement toward everyone’s sake enjoyments beyond the 1st of October.  There were selections of cheeses and cured meats from renowned Les Fromagerie to match with artisanal Japanese sakes.  We had more than 40 sakes available for the attendees to taste.  Sakes available on the day were as follows:

There was such great atmosphere during the event, attendees enjoyed fun and technical conversations with each sake specialists.  The number of sake bottles sold on the day has reached a new record of 97bottles all together.  The increase in sales was about 30% from the previous year.  It is an extremely encouraging to recognise this growth.    
 
Honami Matsumoto

She has been working with sake for nearly 15 years and is a Kikisakeshi-qualified sake sommelier, WSET-certified educator and an International Wine Challenge(IWC) Panel Judge in the sake category.

Having trained at Leith’s School of Food & Wine and Le Cordon Bleu, Honami is a qualified sommelier and has worked at some of London’s world-renowned restaurants, including Le Gavroche, as well as luxury wine and spirits merchant Hedonism Wines.
